Ryabina

A two-storey house of 172 m² near Moscow: a red timber bar whose first floor cantilevers over a deck, beside a low garage.

Key challenge

A compact family house on two floors: the day rooms open to the garden below, the bedrooms above, and a garage that also holds the service rooms of the house.

Concept

One strict bar 15 m long and 7 m deep, painted the red of country houses from Finland to the Volga. On the garden side the ground floor steps back behind a full-height glass wall and the first floor cantilevers over a pine deck. The long west wall is nearly closed, with slim windows only. A low glazed link joins the bar to the garage and is the entrance.
