Ovin

A barn of 139 m² near Moscow under one terracotta roof: a double-height glass hall on the south and a closed brick half with the bedrooms above.

Key challenge

A family house that is two things at once: one big bright room for living, open to the garden, and a quiet closed half for sleeping and working.

Concept

One ridge runs the length of the house. On the south the roof falls steeply and low over a double-height glass hall, carried at the eave by timber A-braces; on the north it falls gently over a two-storey brick half. A straight stair along the ridge line leads from the glass hall up to a gallery that looks down into it.
